Bellyvision
‘Bellyvision apparatus and the like’ is an animation commissioned for the Invisible You – Human Microbiome exhibition at The Eden Project. The exhibition, supported by The Wellcome Trust, explores the amazing invisible world of our microbiome; the ecosystem of micro-organisms that live in, and on, our bodies. This world is a microcosm of the human world, a functioning society that, like ours, is constantly changing and evolving. The animation imagines what a microbial television network (Bellyvision) might look like. Using the visual language and conventions of TV shows we explore a selection of stories from across our body’s microbial community.
The animation is accompanied by a ‘Bellyvision Guide’ magazine which explores these fascinating stories in more detail.
Many thanks to microbial ecologist Jack Gilbert of Argonne National Laboratory for advising us on the project.
